After you extract the archive (ZEsarUX_bin-5.0-debian8_x64.tar.gz ?) with "tar xzf ZEsarUX_bin-5.0-debian8_x64.tar.gz"
cd into the directory "cd ZEsarUX-5.0"
and try "./zesarux"
what happens?

I found that is was "<" which is in about the same location as it is on the Spectrum keyboard

If one is gong to implement CoCo and/or Dragon it would be nice to do an HD6309 rather than an M6809 implementation.
