Is the baud rate of the UART that can be handled from the Z80 side limited to 115200?
No, up to 2Mbps is being used by current development tools. The baud rate can be set in fine steps.

Re: How low is too low?

A snapshot wipes out the basic system so you've already crossed that bridge :) You just have to be careful with the interrupts as the basic rom interrupt will poke into the system vars area using the iy register as index pointer. So replacing the rom isr or running with interrupts disabled solves th...

Re: zx spectrum next

7. gpio any info? Without looking now, I believe most if not all the gpios are connected to the fpga. This means you can do whatever you want with them. What will end up being done in the official zx next spec is not settled yet although there are some ideas where it will go. 8. π as in raspberry p...

Re: zx spectrum next

1. copper? what is it what can it do - the crash article said it can drive the 3x ay8912 is this correct does it do it in parallel with the z80n or is there contention with the z80? I haven't seen the crash article but likely it was not up-to-date on things. The copper can change nextreg state, whi...

Re: zx spectrum next

the next has 48KB of video ram which is 16kb more than the zx prism but it doesnt have 96kb of fast dual ported video ram which would mean it could interlace two screens and double the vertical resolution The next has several graphics layers - you're speaking about one layer called layer 2 which is...

Re: Compatibility problem with TurboSound FM (register expansion of TurboSound Next interferes)

Dear Alcoholics Anonymous, no one in their right mind will create FM music tracks for the external expansion Board using 7MHz mode, or 14Mhz. This is incorrect. The next is not a pentagon which can only operate at 3.5 MHz. The next can operate at several speeds - 3.5, 7, 14 and the choice is going ...

Re: Compatibility problem with TurboSound FM (register expansion of TurboSound Next interferes)

It makes no sense to worry about the theoretically possible clock frequency, because all musical compositions of ZX Spectrum are designed for the processor at a frequency of 3.5 MHz. It matters very much if the clock is being used to time things as the original poster was suggesting when he asked i...

Re: zx spectrum next

is there a technical manual coming for it? There is technical information available for most things now. But keep in mind the core is not finished and will likely continue to be developed after the cased nexts are already delivered. The features that are in now represent 90% of everything and wheth...

Re: "PiTubeDirect" Pi co-processor system for BBCmicro (at FB)

No I think he's suggesting making the interface to the pi similar to the bbc's pitube interface to the pi. I don't think that makes any sense on a next - emulating other 8-bit processors on the pi doesn't really add anything but it does manage to slow down a 1GHz arm cpu a great deal. On a bbc it do...

Re: Compatibility problem with TurboSound FM (register expansion of TurboSound Next interferes)

I designed the board, assuming that the expansion port was driven at "14MHz" like "ZXBus". I selected a 74AC class logic IC. There were fewer varieties to choose from, so the number of ICs increased to six. The original "TurboSound" used the 74ALS class "KP1533" series. I'm not sure what is going t...
