Re: Musical potential of the NEXT.

That video is not of a spectrum next. It is a simple 48k core with fm added. Maybe run on a spectrum next board however :)

Re: Had no trouble reading the specnext group

For the next itself, I don't think it makes sense to use the pitube thing from the bbc. Finding a way to use the pi at its full potential is really what we're after. There are a few ideas on this but the first step is likely to be a uart connection so that the pi and next can communicate quickly and...

Re: Musical potential of the NEXT.

The FM chips are too big to fit in the zx next architecture in current board's fpga - this is the reason they are no longer being considered. That doesn't mean you can't have it in a simpler architecture, like a plain 128k for example, and create a core for that.

Re: Compatibility problem with TurboSound FM (register expansion of TurboSound Next interferes)

It can be imagined that our "TurboSound Next" also has the same mechanism to expand the AY address and switch chips. However, when I looked at the material, I noticed that the sound chip register has been expanded in other ways. An AY-based sound chip such as YM2203 (which expands the address of 0x...

Re: Compatibility problem with TurboSound FM (register expansion of TurboSound Next interferes)

Is 14 MHz output to "Extended edge connector" in Turbo mode? Recently I found a post at FB about this situation. Re: Had no trouble reading the specnext group

Yes I suppose that's the case. The pi0 is barely able to keep up with a 2MHz interface to the 6502 in the bbc in the pitube mainly due to interrupt latency. They switched to using the GPU to make the interface reliably work. In this arrangement the pi is running bare metal software (ie all it does i...

Re: Had no trouble reading the specnext group

Since it seems that the article of "co-processor" to which David Ball was posted on February 26th (during this period) is not interested, so I would like to repost this post. https://www.facebook.com/groups/specnext/permalink/825260704497918/?comment_tracking=%7B%22tn%22%3A%22O%22%7D *Contents: An ...

I suspect facebook itself is responsible for this in order to annoy you enough to sign up. And I'm not kidding :(

Updated documentation for sprites, tilemap and dma

New documentation has been posted: Sprites: https://www.specnext.com/sprites/ This hadn't been updated for a year so there is quite a bit new there, including descriptions of 4-bit sprites, relative sprites and the nextreg interface. Tilemap: https://www.specnext.com/tilemap-mode/ One incompatible c...

Re: Musical potential of the NEXT.

The hardware spi interface on the pi0 turned out not to be as useful as expected so it's very likely that the pi will need a uart connection to allow reasonable communication with the pi running linux. Beyond that there is a lot of leeway on how things end up. I don't know if this will be settled be...
