Re: Digitized sound effects on Next - in Basic and Machine Code

Yes, a SpecDrum/Covox style 8-bit DAC is included in the ZX Next core, so your program can load sampled data from the SD card to play along with the 3x AY "chips" and beeper.

Re: DEFPROC, ENDPROC and PROC in Next Basic

Take a look in the latest SD Distro, in the folder "docs", sub folder "nextzxos".
There's a "NextBASIC_New_Commands_and_Features" PDF there for our reference, until the User's Manual is finished and published. ;)

Re: Joystick ports' Pinout & Usage Info

Here's some recently published information on how to drive the joy ports on the Next from the SD v0.8e Distro : A second Kempston port (IN 55 – 0x37) has been added which follows the same format as port 31 (0x1F). Supports Sega Megadrive 3 (and 6) button Joypads. Currently 4 buttons can be used at m...

Re: Connectors / Jumpers List

PiyoTaro さん、 The MSX was indeed capable of I/O through the joystick ports, because they were driven by the AY3-8910 PSG's I/O ports. In the ZX Spectrum, there were several interface standards but all were only capable of reading (input) from, not writing to the joystick port(s). In the ZX Spectrum N...

Re: Joystick port is bidirectional? | Re: Connectors / Jumpers List

Is it possible to output a signal from the "Joystick port" (bidirectional communication is possible)? I would like to use pins1 to 4 as the data bus, pin6 as the bit shift clock, pin9 as the write signal to the device. I want to use it as an " 8-bit parallel output port " across the D-flip-flop cir...

Re: JOYSTICK PORTS position

More than a year ago, during and right after the KS campaign, every key design topic was heavily discussed among the Next Team and us backers. Truth is, it's impossible to please everybody and at some point, discussions have to be ended and decisions have to be made. That's the leading team's karma....

Re: RGB pinout - same as VGA?

Is that an official pinout for the ZX Spectrum Next, or a standard VGA pinout image you found on Google? It's official. Here's the pinout in more detail. It's a simplified VGA interface, with 2 different configurations according to the scandoubler setting in a standard 15-pin VGA D-Sub connector. T...
