Re: PI Used as Audio Card for ZX Next

Take a look at the NeoGS and related Russian cards. They have a well defined API, do MOD files and a reasonable amount of game support.

Re: FUZIX on Next

It's on the long list of interesting machines. It ought to run the 128K with DIVMMC port (although that has speed disadvantages due to the lack of real banking). At the moment my ZX effort is going into the ZX Uno and doing a full ZX Uno port doing interesting things with the combined 128K 512 pixel...

Re: Some suggestions for core 2.00.xx changes

I'm not suggesting any kind of supervisor mode. Trying to add that to a Z80 would be hard and loads of gates. You'd also need a lot of very different software because a supervisor mode really implies having two different SP values and that breaks everything in the T80 core. Thanks for the FIFO point...

Re: Games & SD Card

What part of 'further distribution denied' are you having trouble understanding ?

It's a real issue that ought to be cleaned up when someone gets a moment, just to define exactly what you can put on the SD card so everyone can be happy.

Re: Games & SD Card

I would be most entertained to see that discussion happen with a lawyer. The whole business of 'but we aren't charging for this bit' is fraught with interesting problems. Then there is All software parts of this Distribution are considered automatically "Closed Source"/"Further distribution denied" ...

Re: Ethernet vs wifi

The Next has a 3.3v serial port that is used for the 'wifi' (it's more a basic serial link over wifi than real wifi unless you write new firmware for the adapter - which can be done). The same 3.3v serial port can be used with a suitable USB/serial adapter and you can then run TCP/IP over it in SLIP...

Re: Games & SD Card

Unfortunately the licensing https://gitlab.com/thesmog358/tbblue/blob/master/LICENSE.md contains a long list of restrictions such as 'Furthermore you cannot charge a duplication fee.' So you can't sell games on it because the minimum OS needed to boot can't be on your SD card and if my fee includes ...

Re: Some suggestions for core 2.00.xx changes

From an OS perspective things that would be nice to have - a way to lock all the magic system I/O ports until an unlock key is written again - mark any 8K as write protected - NMI option on writes to write protected memory in 8K slices (really helps debugging code scribbles) - way to check if the se...

Re: Demonstration of "Pentagon 128" and about TS-Conf

As an aside you really want to emulate not the Pentagon 128 but the later Pentagons, and you need the disk emulation parts of it and TR-DOS stuff.

The later Pentagon allows you to map RAM bank 0 at 0000-3FFF and that is rather useful for all kinds of things.

Re: Demonstration of "Pentagon 128" and about TS-Conf

It's true to the Russian spectrum scene I think - it's not got a pretty case design like the Next, but it's way more powerful in many other ways. The I/O port documentation isn't that hard to read with a translation tool. The big differences (booting with baseconf) - It has a real Z80 processor (3.5...
