Re: A Megadrive core?

No. The Next hardware has SRAM and the MISter hardware has DDR3 and optional SDR SDRAM. The Next core is made for the Next hardware and SRAM. Not for the MISTer hardware. The Next core won’t run as designed on the MISTer without work on the core. An SDRAM controller would be part of the FPGA core pr...

Re: A Megadrive core?

For sure, the MISTer is a very beefy system. The Next core doesn’t yet have a SDRAM controller, as the Next uses SRAM, so it would need a fair bit of work and testing beyond simply synthesising for Altera.

Re: Converting to NextBasic

IDE_TOKENISER is documented here, on page 22-23: https://gitlab.com/thesmog358/tbblue/blob/master/docs/nextzxos/NextZXOS_and_esxDOS_APIs.pdf IDE_TOKENISER ($01d8) Available from NextZXOS v2.01 Convert BASIC between plain text & tokenised forms IN: B=0, tokenise BASIC line (plain text -> tokenised) B...

Re: Converting to NextBasic

The sources are both here. As Ped says, they won’t tell you much - all the real work is done in the IDE_TOKENISER API call, which calls into the ROM.

Re: Tilemap code example

Everyone seems to have their own way to do this. I wrote my own C# code to take a png with transparency, and create the tiles, palette and map all together. The advantage of doing this is that you can dedupe the tiles by comparing all eight flip/rotate combinations. It also lets you have more contro...

Re: ZX Spectrum Next and Internet access

Have you seen NXtel? https://github.com/Threetwosevensixseven/NXtel/wiki/FAQ Also check out the PlusPack in the distro. Tim Gilberts has written a NextZXOS driver which exposes the ESP module through the BASIC standard channels and streams interface. Most devs who want to copy content to their SD ca...

Re: Best binary format for storing Next's graphics

For layer 2 only, I suggest .nxi format. Info here: https://specnext.dev/wiki/File_Formats This is a deep complicated subject though, because the Next display can be composed of multiple layers stacked on top of each other. Some layers are mutually exclusive, but generally four separate layers plus ...

Re: Tilemap code example

This is my tilemap setup code from Spectron 2084. It's not a runnable example, and not written for sjasmplus, but it's small and self-contained enough that you might be able to spot something different from your code: SetupTilemap proc ld sp, $0000 MMU2(10, false) ; Page in ULA/tilemap bank nextreg ...

Re: Musical potential of the NEXT.

He doesn’t seem to be very aware of English idioms, so it could be either. It’s quite amusing, in light of the nonsense he’s spouting and the way he projects that onto everyone but himself. I wouldn’t bother too much arguing with him, as he’ll keep it up indefinitely. As long as the misapprehensions...

Re: Musical potential of the NEXT.

This is what I told him, and he said I didn’t have the ability to communicate or understand. I’m being charitable, and putting it down to language differences.
