Re: m.py, my accidental build system

"unclear rules"? That's the very definition of makefiles.. =)

Anyway, like I explained: it was a total accident. I didn't start out with a goal of making a build system.

m.py, my accidental build system

This is a bit tangential, but may be useful for someone. I'm (slowly) working on a new speccy game, mostly using SDCC. I used a simple batch file to call the assembler, sdcc, linker, my .tap file builder and finally to launch the result in an emulator. When something didn't compile, the batch file m...

Re: "Pimping" old games to have no attribute clash possible?

The question is, is "sprite drawing code" in many cases similar or is it all over the place? Depends on what they do. Are they limited to character width? Do they mask the background? Are they updated on every frame? Etc. As for engines - the pseudo-3d games from imagine possibly have similar routi...

Re: "Pimping" old games to have no attribute clash possible?

No, as in, there's no obvious, general solution. Yes, as in, given enough time and effort, any game could be rewritten from scratch if need be. Maybe, as in, you possibly don't need to go quite that far in most cases. Like dave18 said, you could isolate the sprite draws and replace them - but this m...

Re: How to check for Next HW

Write 0 to port $243B, then read from port $253B. If the result is 10, you're probably on the next. See http://devnext.referata.com/wiki/Board_feature_control

Re: ZEsarUX 7.1 BETA

And while I'm asking for stuff, it would be great if there was a way to quit the emulator directly, quickly, by hitting esc. Currently it first asks for permission and then does a fadeout before quiting.

Re: ZEsarUX 7.1 BETA

I'm restarting my speccy development and adding zesarux to the toolkit so I can eventually target the next too. I'm using a batch file to launch the emulator with a .tap file, like so: ..\ext\zesarux_win-7.1\zesarux.exe foobar.tap this, however, leads to zesarux to complain that it can't find the ro...
