I assume Sludge assumes the only way to put stuff into layer2 is to load .bmp:s from the SD card. I presume, hope, and assume this is not the case; the layer2 will be accessible directly in memory and the games can put stuff there like they do to any other buffer.

Almost all programming information is public now. https://www.specnext.com/hardware-main-page/ In particular the tbblue port system documents a large chunk of everything. That page is missing some information but if you click on the "wiki" tab at the top you can learn more about things like the dma...

There's talk about the manual.. is the work available to be seen somewhere? There's been several threads asking for programming details for the next; it would be beneficial to collect all that stuff in one place, but if it all already goes into the manual, that would be duplicate work.. I'm also pretttty sure a sid implementation was readily available whereas the uspeech is only partially reverse-engineered (as far as I could find)..

Ooh, so the pi zero is on the top back so its ports can be accessed from the outside. Neat. I hope the zero's ports are extruded enough to work with holes like that.
