ZX Renew cases...

Post by Iestyn goes Skiing » Tue Mar 20, 2018 6:12 pm

Has anyone bought a replacement case from these guys? Do they come complete with rubber keyboard and faceplate as shown in the images? I can't seem to clarify it anywhere on the website.

ZX Renew is the UK distributor for Retro Radionics (http://retroradionics.co.uk) – which, despite its .co.uk domain, is not in the UK.

I was originally going to buy from ZX Renew. However, their website was unclear in various ways (as you've found), and I sent a few emails asking various questions, all of which were totally ignored. So I concluded that the guy didn't want my business. If he hasn't the courtesy to reply to my queries, I'm not buying from him.

I ended up ordering from Retro Radionics instead. Their site is more informative, they're the people who actually make the parts, and the main chap (Djordje) does in fact respond to queries. It may cost a bit more in shipping, perhaps, buy I feel much happier buying from that source. NB I haven't received my goods yet, but I know they're on their way. (From China, unfortunately, where the manufacturing takes place – so there's a lengthy wait involved.)

I've ordered a Next case from Retroradionics early in december 2017. On march 19th I received a message that it is shipped...
As it's shipped from china shipping shall last 60 days or so... :(

BUT: I've seen an Omni ( http://retroradionics.co.uk/shop.html#! ... category=0 ) in an original case (black, "original" keyboard and face plate) some days ago. Let me tell you: The quality was much better than I've expected. It looks gorgeous...

If you can wait for a month (or two or three or... :D ) I can tell you if any parts needed are provided... :D - I hope that I do not have to pay any taxes...

The guy who bought the Omni said that you have to wait "LOOONG" time for your offer to be provided but that the parts are 100% OK and the quality is great...

P.S.: Link to the (german) forum: http://forum.tlienhard.com/phpBB3/viewt ... f=6&t=2683

P^2.S.: Not sure if I got your question right.
The offer on ZX Renew is "just the molded case"... ( http://www.zxrenew.co.uk/ZX-SPECTRUM-Re ... -p90368206 ). - A complete housing for the Next, including faceplate, membrane, rubber keys, skrews... costs aprox $50,-

ReHi!

Here a pic from my "workbench" with Djordjes case in use...

As the "new" keyboard works even worse than the original 48k, I'm not using it. In fact "Cherry" in 2018 is so much better... ;->
