The ZX Spectrum Next project now seems to end

Postby Eratosthenes » Sat Apr 18, 2020 2:56 pm

Moin, moin!

Being baker (30xx) I had to wait even longer as many of you.

BUT: Now DPD said that I'll receive my ZX Spectrum next early next week.
Being happy that - last but not least - I'll get my pledge, I'm not 100% sure if this is exactly what I want.

I have been part of all of the obstacles of the project and having "Just The Board" I've been part - at least a very, very tiny one - of the development of the ZX Spectrum Next.

Fiddling around with the issues with I2C, the voltage regulator and many other things has been a lot of fun.
THNX 2 the team that you fixed all of it and that the ZX Spectrum Next now is what it is today.

My Next (I think) will end up in the cabinet of my retro computer stuff and will not be used at all. (My board though may- and will be used in the future...)

The good news: It will be placed next to a brand new (new old stock) 48k and a nearly unused Toastrack.

See the dead flesh thing here:

I hope you'll have a lot of nice experience and retro memory with the ZX Spectrum Next, the same I had since I received my board.

Have a lot of fun...

Well, I haven't even gotten confirmation of shipping. Of course, while I am a lower backer number than you, I live in another part of the world.

To me the magic of the next has been the development of the machine.

As mentioned: I will store the Next in my cabinet but I'm not that impatient to get the device.

I'm looking forward how the real product will look. Having seen this, the magic may be worn out. - Let's see...

So my Next arrived today.

As all the others said: Many thanks to the team and everybody who was part of the project. What a perfect device...

I think the team has asked for (unboxing-) photos I have taken some, even though I'm not on Facebook.
Sorry for the poor quality. I'm using high resolution (256x192) and colour but it doesn't look perfect though... :(
Please give me a hint how I can fix this...

Only one was a bit better:

P.S.: I can do better.
My Next now is back in it's box Image and will not be used for the moment.

I love the package! Click at the picture in full resolution, look at the details and find out why it is so beautiful

Your high resolution pic doesn't have as many colours as can be displayed on the Next! 😉

Thanks for the info. - So there is space for optimisation... ;->

P.S.: Haven't found a better solution, but...
Here a Photo of my Next next to a nearly untouched Toastrack: Image

As far as I am concerned the Toastie looks quiet nice. Check the photo in full resolution...
(The Next also but keep in mind that it's about 35 years younger...)

P^2.S.: One more shot for the gallery (16:9): Image
