How create tilemaps and write tiles individually to screen

Postby oscarbraindead » Tue May 19, 2020 12:27 pm

Hi all!
I'm new in the forum. Usually I use ZXBasic by Boriel with the em00k Nextlib.
I'm doing some tests with NEXTBasic in emulators, I don't have a Next yet.
I know how to use sprites in NEXTBAsic but I'm having troubles in order to have tiles working.

I tried to use the tileeditor.nex program in order to create a map but I don't know how load the tile files with images and use the images in the editor.
Anybody knows how to load images in order to use it?

On the other hand, I'd like to know if is possible write tiles in screen without use a tilemap? I've search in the manual but
I didn't found anything about.

Please, excuse my english.
Thanks in advance.

You always need a tilemap, as this is the only mechanism to tell whree to put the tiles. A tileset and tilemap always go together as a set.

Make sure not to mix up hardware tiles (layer 3 and em00k Nextlib, 8x8) with NextBASIC software tiles (16x16). They are not the same thing.

Hi all!
I'll try use the tiles with tilemaps as you said. Any tilemap editor recommended?
Thanks for the information and tips about nextlib tiles and nextbasic tiles, SevenFFF.

Best regards!

NextBASIC also supports 8x8 software tiles, although these are still not the same format as the hardware tiles (they have 8-bits per pixel, just as the 16x16 tiles).

I hadn't quite twigged they were different. Is there a way to use the hardware tiles in NextBasic?

Interesting. Is there any public nextbasic development roadmap?
