What ports are available on the Next?

Post by MikeCad » Mon May 29, 2017 4:14 pm

9v power (centre positive), HDMI out, VGA out (RGB and VGA switchable), combined Ear/Mic, Audio Out, PS/2, SD card slot, two DB9 joystick ports (compatible with Cursor, Kempston and Interface 2), original spectrum bus connector.

A mouse (using Kempston mode emulation) and keyboard can be connected simultaneously to the PS/2 port via a Y splitter cable. A USB keyboard can be connected if the keyboard is PS/2 compatible (via a PS/2 to USB converter).

Yes you can use the Ear/Mic port to save and load software from tape, or more modern recording and playback equipment :)

If you have the Pi0 accelerator fitted then you have access to USB and a mini HDMI port.

Note that with the combined Ear/Mic port, you will need a stereo to twin mono cable.
ZX80, ZX81, Spectrum 48K, Spectrum +2, QL, Atari 130XE, Atari ST, Atari Falcon, Acorn A3000..
