Why has the Sinclair logo changed to rounded ends?

Rick Dickinson, who designed the ZX Spectrum Next has been a frequent contributor to the Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/groups/specnext/

This question has been raised many times in both positive and negative ways. Some like it and some don't.

In terms of the approach taken with the Next there is a desire to show an evolution of the design where practically possible. What would have happened had the Spectrum never gone out of production? It is not an evolution in the true sense as the product has sat dormant for decades, so it is a combination of resurrection, evolution and some limiting factors from the past. The rounded off logo is something that was produced many years ago during the Sinclair QL days. In Rick's words...

"Clive liked it but felt it wasn't time yet. I think this gentle evolution of the logo goes hand in hand with how the rest of the visual design has evolved, with a tad off all Spectrum versions rolled into one, and gentle evolutionary steps forward".

If the designer of the original Spectrum's feels that the time is right for this new rounded logo, who are we go argue? :)
