Hi From Brand New Spectrum User

Postby SinclairSociety » Mon Jan 21, 2019 5:31 pm

Hi, just wanted to say how excited I am about the Spectrum Next and sure hope we see a 2nd Kickstarter run or that extra Spectrum Nexts are made so those not on the 1st kickstarter get to buy one.

I am in Northern California and brand new to Spectrum. In my 50s I am soooo excited about the possibility of buying the Next. Like being a kid in the 1970s and 80s when computing was fun!

I guess to get me started I will buy a used Spectrum for now and hope to see sales of the Spectrum Next by this summer. 8-)

Yeh, and I am a bit giddy in hopes a 2nd kickstart or that the Spectrum Next has extra made for those that missed the 1st kickstarter.

I am so excited, like a kid in the 80s, to get a Spectrum Next.

Since I am brand spanking new to Sinclair, I am buying some older machines to get familiar with the system. Only used a ZX80 once in the olden days.

My hopes are to get a Spectrum Next and learn to code my 1st game. One that I was going to do on Atari 8 bit but never happened. Maybe I will make it happen with a Spectrum Next instead!

;)

You could make use of the time by using an emulator. I recommend ZEsarUX. Get it from here: https://github.com/chernandezba/zesarux/releases
There are also several IDEs. Are you interested in coding in BASIC or machine code?

Thanks for the tip about the emulator.

Basic I think at first as it has been a VERY long time since I coded at all and even then it was really basic.

Hopefully the basic that comes with the Next is a good place to start.

Even historically Spectrum BASIC has been a pretty good dialect. In addition they have been making additions to allow easy access to many of the extended features.
