I'm an old-skool gamer whose first computer was a 48K ZX Spectrum, and the first game I ever played on it was a demo copy of 'Rasputin' which came free on the cover of an issue of 'Your Sinclair' magazine. Many a happy hour I spent exploring the worlds that the coders of the 8-Bit era crammed into those 48 Kilobytes.
After learning the basics of BASIC a friend of mine gave me a copy of an assembler he had along with the Melbourne House book 'Spectrum Machine Language For The Absolute Beginner'. It took me ages to get my head around counting in binary and hexadecimal, but eventually I got the hang of it and started writing some simple Z80 assembly language programs of my own.
I'm really interested in the programming aspects of the Spectrum Next and will definitely be backing the second kickstarter round of funding should it go ahead.
Finally, I'd just like to wish the team behind the Next all the best and look forward to seeing the fruits of their labour sometime soon.
