ZX Spectrum Next...AKA project LOKI

Post by Josemci » Mon Jun 05, 2017 4:15 pm

Being an 8bit user from eighties, I say: anybody remembers the ill-fated SuperSpectrum, codename LOKI? Not an QL, not an simple 128K, that project ended with the sell of Sinclair to Amstrad. Just remembered now, and I thought that could be nice to rename the machine as ZX Spectrum Next - LOKI. Just an thougt, but I assume sir Clive, Rick and others should cry of emotion haha.

Dreamware project .. and on top of this, "the computer would cost as little as ₤200".

Maybe there still exists the hardware specification or port map. It is not problem to implement it today, with large FPGA and 10ns SRAMs.
But, who is the author? Do you know?

I always thought the Loki design became the basis of the Konix console and then the Atari Jaguar.

Flare one and Konix multisystem share very similar hardware, the main difference is a slightly less configurable blitter on the flare and the z80. Oh and the fact the flare one had 4 asics, to the Konix' final larger single asic. Flare one could probably be re-implemented into the next as a core.
