Zx Uno . Good interim board?

Post by Zzapmort » Tue May 30, 2017 12:52 pm

Hi got one of these last week.

Is the current next core Tbb blue the same as the Next . This would then prove a handy developer board or an interim solution until the next is out.
8-)

Regards Stephen

Firmware TBBlue 1.08 was released by Fabio for the ZX-UNO board, but I don't know if they have taken apart some features. I know the 3xAY and the SID are there. There are versions of the TBBlue core with sprites and layer 2 features on Next rev.0 boards, which use the same FPGA as the ZX-UNO, so those features could be used right now for any developer.

I'm very much thinking of getting one for a play around, I think ZX-Uno is an awesome project. It can serve as an intermediate for the Next for me and then I'll swap it to another core and build it into a nice case. Pity its PS/2 only so it won't work with a Pok"e"r 3 size board - I've scoured the ZX-Uno board for any ideas of getting a USB keyboard converted to work on it with no luck (just the dual USB/PS/2 with adapters work).

Sorry for the spam. I have USB->PS/2 converters for the ZX-Uno. I can sell mounted and as kit. But I am waiting SMD crystals from 2 months ago (ordered again).

Oooh - looks good Antonio, relevant spam for me ;) . If you get the parts you need (what SMD crystals are they?) let me know as I'll very likely get one along with a ZX-Uno. Would this also work as the basis for a generic USB > PS/2 adapter (does it just convert the signal and output to the PS/2 input?), or is it specific for the ZX-Uno?
Does this allow full USB keyboard support on the ZX-Uno (boot menus etc.) or just use in game/use etc.?

It's based on this project.

http://zx-pk.ru/threads/24966-konverter ... atury.html

The problem is that project it's not open source, but he shared the .hex file and schematics for everyone can build. This one is specific for ZX-Uno v4.2. But here you have eagle files for generic board:

user: guest
pass: zxuno

If you need gerber files I can generate for you. The crystal is 12MHZ HC-49S (very common). Yes, that converts USB to PS/2 for every keyboard, it's not specific for the ZX-Uno. And yes, it allows full support on the ZX-Uno (boot menus, etc...)

Awesome - perhaps one for the Next in the future as a project for me :)

The converter is great! I'm also interested in getting an Uno for playing about with but there seems to be a few different versions. What would be a good recommendation for someone getting started?

Anyone that offers compatibility with the official 4.1 board will do the job. There are several vendors that sells boards based on the very same board we designed (the advantage of being open source is that there are more possibilities of units being available due to several makers doing them, instead of depending upon one single source). The Next forum is not suitable for trading or selling, so it's better for you to reach Antonio Villena on the ZX-UNO Facebook group for more details.
