For what it's worth I have two Sam Coupés'
... and a mostly finished remake of Sam Strikes Out for the Spectrum.

My games for the Spectrum: Dingo, The Speccies, The Speccies 2 (also for arcade hardware) & Vallation.

watched a vid where fuse, converts a speccy game to sam coupe.

am guessing this goes both ways?

fuse is built for risc only machines right? wont run on standard pc with win7 ?

tbh i havent played with it that much.

Sam Coupe /often with problems/ can run some, mainly 48K speccy games, but native Sam Coupe games will never run on any speccy.

Peeked. Sam Coupe is more powerful machine than 48/128K, with faster CPU, much more memory and quite different video/audio chips, gfx modes and mem banking.

The SAM Coupe can run practically all 48K ZX Spectrum software without any issue at all when using a good emulator and full ZX Spectrum ROM image -in my 25 years of owning one I've only ever found one title that crashed when using a good emulator.

(The original 48K emulator supplied with it by MGT couldn't use the real ZX Spectrum ROM due to copyright, so a 'skeleton' ROM was created from scratch to be as compatible as possible - this had problems with titles if they used odd bits of ROM code, however PD emulators with the proper ZX Spectrum ROM appeared quickly and compatiblity was no longer an issue).

Also, most 128K games were hacked to use the SAM's memory paging, with AY -> SAA soundchip conversion code so they would run perfectly.

No. The SAM Coupe is a different computer with superior memory, graphics, sound.... As an analogy, try running Amiga software on a C64!

Thanks Quazar, I know .. a poor "out of box" compatibility with legacy 48/128K speccy was later rectified like you said. A little bit of ASIC/VDP magic /blitter, HW sprites, HW scroll/ and Sam Coupe could be a "complete" game machine.

It's quite capable as it stands with some careful programming - I've had tremendous results with some of my software, plus all the hardware goodies I've designed for it, and continue to design for some new releases soon :)
