Sad news regarding the Sinclair Vega Plus...

Post by SamusDrake » Mon Aug 06, 2018 2:12 pm

Okay, I just noticed a Youtuber has done a review on the Vega Plus and unfortunately the end result is just too vulgar. Looking at other scraps of news and its pretty bad...

...I can understand it being super late, but the packaging and quality of the final product is just criminal. Not even the courtesy of bubblewrap, nor case quality worthy of Rick Dickinson's excellent design...

They didn’t pay Rick for the design work he did, and then chose to bastardise it in clunky nasty way.

Thats disgusting considering his history with the Sinclair brand. He even appeared in one of their trailers to help sell the Vega Plus...

RCL should be shut down and prosecuted. This 'product' is an utter disgrace! It's still bearing the Sinclair branding, which Sky have withdrawn the rights to, it's packaging is simply a smack in the face to all the backers and then the machine itself, where do you start? Paper inserts under the cheap plastic screen cover, impossibly poor D pad and buttons, an apparently non-working SD slot and overall a piece of crap! So a £500,000 crowdfunded pot produces 400 cheap and potentially unuseable paper weights! What is the remaining £499,600 being spent on???

Iestyn, I have to agree that legal action should be taken against those responsible as the backers and the sinclair legacy deserves better.

Here is what is strange. The Vega was (apparently) ok for what it was. How could it go so wrong in basically adding a screen and battery to the device?

There are just the couple of dozen prototypes they knocked together..it's another ploy...shipping these so they can say they have delivered something...the next you'll hear from them is "no further shipments as we read the complaints and will work on fixing them!"

I wouldn't be surprised if some one could make their own handheld speccy using Fuse and a Pi Zero, and the budget much less than £105...

The PocketCHIP (which is apparently a thing of the past) was $70 (~£55) had a (touch)screen battery and full keyboard and has enough CPU power to handle FUSE.
