Wireless keyboard?

Postby Mousey » Tue Oct 02, 2018 4:30 pm

Would I be able to plug in an USB dongle for a wireless keyboard and use that to play games? My Next will live under the TV for me to play games from the couch, and I'm thinking of titles that require more than just joystick and fire (e.g. Skool Daze or any text adventures!).

I did try to search the forum but apparently both "USB" and "keyboard" are too common to be included in the search.

No. Next uses PS/2 keyboard connector.

Thanks for the fast reply. I just went and looked and realised for the first time that the Next doesn’t have a USB port. Now I feel a bit stupid.

Seems like I can do what I want though, it’ll just have to be a wired keyboard. 🙂

You might be able to if a driver was written for the PI

There are wireless PS2 keyboard/mouse combinations available out there, but it's harder to find since it's tech from the early 2000. Try Ebay.

Yup, I have one...hadn't thought to try it though!. it has two PS2s plugs, one for keyboard and one for mouse (which is a trackball type thing built into the keyboard) and then a transmitter thing to go to the keyboard.

Never thought about trying it...if I get a 2 into 1 ps2 splitter too perhaps the mouse will also work.

Thanks, I have done just that and purchased a Labtec PS/2 set in readiness for my Next!

Perhaps it's possible to use a wireless USB keyboard/mouse together with an adapter like this:
